Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Book review: Discerning the Voice of God

In this post, I would like to highlight a book that I recently read. The title of this wonderful book is Discerning the Voice of God: How to Recognize When God Speaks. It is written by Priscilla Shirer and is published by Moody Publishers. The copyright is 2007, 2012.

Learning to listen for and recognize God’s voice speaking to us is one of the most important aspects of our Christian walk. This is an area of my life where I need improvement. I need to ask God’s guidance for all the decisions in my life—not just for the large life-changing decisions, but for the small daily ones as well.

Priscilla Shirer discusses the many ways that God speaks to us. She explains how to listen to God and how to recognize His voice. I have read other books on the subject, but her way of explaining things helped me to finally grasp how to hear God’s voice. She stresses the need to obey God, because there is no use hearing God’s instructions for your life if you don’t obey them. Her clear, practical applications of the principles are written in a congenial style as if she is talking with a good friend.

If you long for a closer walk with God—one where you seek God’s directions and you obey Him—then I highly recommend this book. Obeying God always brings you into a closer fellowship with Him.
