Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
— Psalm 100:3

Why TABLELAND PRESS?

When I first started thinking about a name for my publishing company, I made a list of different possibilities. Some of the names had spiritual meaning; some were based on my interests. Searching the internet, I discovered that most of them were already being used.

Then I thought about my goals or mission statement for my company: to bring honor and glory to God and to help people grow spiritually. Jesus is our Good Shepherd, and we are His sheep. Keeping in mind Psalm 23, I wrote down several names that included the words pasture or meadow. Some of them just didn’t seem right; others had already been taken. I needed to find a word that wasn’t commonly used.

The chorus of the hymn “Higher Ground” speaks of a heavenly tableland.

“Lord, lift me up and let me stand,

By faith, on heaven’s tableland,

A higher plane than I have found;

Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”

This hymn speaks of wanting to draw closer to God, to leave the worldly thoughts and desires behind. Since a tableland is a place high in the mountains where shepherds bring their sheep or other animals to graze, “Tableland Press” seemed like the perfect name. I searched online databases to verify that the name wasn’t in use. The more I thought about the word tableland, the more I liked it. The word conveys what I want to accomplish with God’s help.

After I decided on the name, I considered the way the words “Tableland Press” look on a page. I typed the name out using different fonts. “Tableland” seemed a little awkward with the b and the two l’s so close together, so I decided to put the name all in caps.

That is how my company’s name became “TABLELAND PRESS, LLC.”
