Are You a Disciple of Jesus Christ or Only a Believer?

With her conversational style of writing, Priscilla Shirer explains how to become a disciple of Jesus Christ. One of the many passages she looks at is John 15:1-5. She points out that the vinedresser (God) and the vine (Jesus) are the ones doing the work. The branches are just abiding in the vine. The vine is producing the fruit on the branches.

She emphasizes dying to self, surrendering all, and letting Jesus live in us. As Galatians 2:20 says, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

I highly recommend this book, which ties in with the inspirational and thought-provoking movie The Forge. It is well written and enjoyable to read. Priscilla Shirer shares Scripture and godly wisdom, using stories from her own life to help illustrate the points that she makes. She encourages the reader to not only become a disciple of Jesus Christ, but also to disciple other people. 

Discipleship is very much needed in the world today. Many churches share the gospel so that people can be saved, but they neglect the task of “making disciples” of those new converts.
