Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Has the Good Shepherd Found You?

A Peep behind the Scenes by Mrs. O. F. Walton is a book that I recently became aware of. It was first published in 1877.

This book is about Norah who thought that acting in a traveling company, wearing beautiful clothes and going from place to place, would be wonderful. So, she left home to get married and act on the stage with her husband and the other members of their theatrical troupe. All too soon, she found that the life that looked glamorous was actually difficult and exhausting. And she was exposed to people with rough ways and talk.

As the story opens, Norah is ill, and her daughter, Rosalie, takes care of her as best she can. A man gives Rosalie a picture of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, carrying a lamb and rejoicing that He has found His lost lamb. Thus begins Norah’s and Rosalie’s desire for the Good Shepherd to find them.

This is a wonderful story! The book quotes several of the passages in the Bible that talk about God being our shepherd. Rosalie’s special way of opening a conversation is an example of a great lead-in to sharing the plan of salvation with others.

While I was reading this book, my reaction was, “Wow!” The author effortlessly blends the story of Norah and Rosalie with the biblical passages of God as our shepherd.

Since the book is in public domain, many people have republished it. Be aware that there may be formatting issues and typos throughout the book. Some reviews have reported small-sized print. Read the reviews carefully.

The paperback I bought is illustrated, and the print is good sized. You can buy it on Amazon at this link.
